If possible, I would like to focus on one topic each week. For instance, "Should students be able to wear pajama pants to school"? It's important to note that your comments and suggestions can remain anonymous.
I think pajama pants should only be worn during special days such as pj day during spirit week or during an elementary read all day. It helps students learn appropriate dress and behavior that is expected for "normal everyday work".
What about yoga pants or athletic pants are those any better? And if we allow those than are pajama pants any worse? Do they cover everything that they should, the 3 B's?
I think we need a strict uniform policy; Thursday can be pajama day. I have awesome pajamas. But seriously, one of the things I like about teaching here is the decorum we can expect and the respect we can foster. The boys know that we remove our hats - we don't wear our "pants on the ground"- the girls know that they are expected to keep themselves properly covered. These things require vigilance to maintain, but they add to the high expectations of our classrooms. To turn a blind eye and allow pajamas, except for a special PJ Day, will soften, slacken, and ultimately severely diminish the high expectations we have. Apathy starts somewhere for every kid and we do not need to invite it in the front door in the form of sleepwear; we're better than that!
Maybe I didn't post correctly yesterday :( My post is not here. I love PJ pants! I don't think they are appropropriate for every day. Could we conciously stick a day in for PJ pants once a semester? Could the student body as a whole do something to earn pj pants during finals?
Is this being enforced in the HS and MS? Has their been an announcement stating that pj bottoms aren't allowed? We here at the Elementary are in agreeance with the fact of them not wearing pj bottoms, but should we be enforcing this at this point? Are parents aware of this as well? Just wanting to get on the same page with this!! Thanks!
Topic suggestions are welcome and highly encouraged!

ReplyDeleteI agree! I believe we should have a designated "pajama day". Thanks for all of your wonderful feedback!
